Twas the night before Valborg and all through the town,
all the students were drinking and messing around...
Uppsala celebrates Valborg like no other Swedish city. This nation wide holiday is a celebration of spring which dates back to the middle ages and according to The Local (a swedish news site), "The original pagan festival heralded the onset of the growth
season. It attempted to ward off evil, ensure fertility and cleanse the
land of the dried and dead of winter. Today, it is still the accepted
gateway to long and warmer days."
In Uppsala festivities begin on the eve of Valborg (April 29th).
My friends and I decided to partake in a more mellow evening. We enjoyed the last rays of the sunshine while sitting outside at the VG pub.
