My Trusty Bike |
I was riding along and all of a sudden it became hard to pedal, after two difficult rotations of the pedals I heard a crash and the pedals wouldn't move at all. I got off my bike and sure enough my backpack strap had wrapped around my chain gear. It was wrapped so tight that that it caused the basket to pop off. There I was on the sidewalk with my basket and backpack dangling off the side of my bike. I could not unwind the gear, it was truly stuck. My only option was to cut my backpack strap. Unfortunately I did not have scissors or a pocket knife, all I had were my keys. I spent the next 5-7 minutes sawing through the strap until finally the backpack, basket, and bike were all free from each other.
I am now left with a backpack with one normal strap and one broken and tied strap and a basket that I have not been able to reattach correctly. Honestly I have no idea how that basket was attached to the side of my bike, there are no hooks or anything. I swear it must have just been floating! For the past few days I've been riding with the basket on the back of the bike (like you seen in the picture) but I am going to reattach it to the side this weekend. I am going to find some of those plastic wire ties like these:
and hang it off the side. I hope it holds. I will add some picture of my repair job once it has been completed.
