Uppland Excursion- Part 1

Linnaeus's Summer Home
This past weekend we went on a bus tour of the Uppland Provence and stopped at several locations along the way.  Passing through small villages, farmland and forests, we were able to see parts of Sweden we may not have seen otherwise. This trip was really great! And not to mention the weather was extraordinary.
Linnaeus Hammarby

His favorite and most precious plants were planted at his summer home for safe keeping from the floods in Uppsala.

The Original Green Roof!

Carl Linnaeus's Moss Garden
There are 5 different types of moss growing here.

This was a little room Linnaeus had built to protect his dried and pressed plant collections elements.
That metal ball on top is thought to be one of the first, if not the first lightening rod. An idea stolen from Benjamin Franklin by one of Linnaeus students.

Unfortunately we were unable to take pictures inside the house but some of the highlights included:
~One of the first highly efficient Scandinavian wood burning stove.
~The desk and chair at which Linneaus sat while writing his book.
~The walls of Linneau's room were hung with line drawings of plants he ripped out of a book of which he had two copies.
~The cabinet which inspired the hierarchical classification system.
~Seeing a plant that Linneau's himself actually planted with his own two hands!
